Biggest Fear: What is Yours?

Have you ever been asked what scares you the most or your biggest fear? Have your answer been something as generic as spiders or dogs or have you given it deep thought and your answer was getting attached to someone or being forgotten? Well, recently I was reading an article online called “Psychology Today” and it was about why young adults feared the future. It got me thinking, what scares me the most? I used to think all the time that it was failure. I hated to fail at anything. Whether it had to deal with career, school, life, anything basically.

If I had to choose what scares me most as of today is the unknown. I think it was always the unknown that scared me. I think always having to be perfect and never failing at something made up for the fact that If I failed at something, then I wouldn’t know the outcome of something or the consequences. Being perfect at everything and trying to succeed at everything was like my escape goat from ignoring the unknown because if I did what I was supposed to do, played it safe, always was perfect, tried my best to never make a mistake, then I knew the outcome.

It’s something I have to work on because I don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow, but that’s what life’s about, right? Overcoming challenges that may smash you like a ton of bricks and prevail.

  1. My biggest fear is death. Before I had my daughter it wasn’t something I used to dwell on a lot. Now I find myself thinking what would happen to her if anything happened to me. I get myself sick with worry for hours on end. I think it sort of resonates with your fear as well. Fear of the unknown…
Love your post, very thought provoking.

    1. I can see the similarities. It’s hard facing fears like this because you don’t know how to face these kinds of fears. They are too big to face alone sometimes, in my opinion.
